Volunteering at COOK4CALD

Volunteering is one of the biggest ways you can make change within your community.

More often than not, volunteering is a commitment that does not accomodate to work, study or placement obligations. That’s why we have tailored our volunteering process to take your life into consideration.

You shouldn’t be met with barriers when trying to give back to your community.

At COOK4CALD, you can volunteer once, twice, or every week if you’d like. We need volunteers who are willing to cook our meals + volunteers who are able to deliver them. You can opt to do either, or both!

FAQs

  • Not at all! We work as a team and have no expectations of our volunteers to have food handling experience. We hope for all our volunteers to have a strong willingness to learn and grow. We also expect 100% respect and patience towards everyone on our team. We also encourage everyone to ask questions at any point in the kitchen and out!

  • As we are a youth based organisation, we do request a valid Police Check, Working with Children’s Check - this is to ensure all of our volunteers are safe under our supervision.

We also require a Food Handling Certificate (quick and free online course). This is to ensure all volunteers understand food safety, as it is highly important when we are distributing meals to the community!

  • Not at all! We also run events throughout the year, but we ask all volunteers for their availability. We understand that young people have busy schedules, but that should not affect wanting to make a change in the community.

  • You can head to the “Contact Us” tab on our website and send an enquiry! Alternatively, you can email ‘cook4cald@gmail.com’ to get in touch!

“I volunteered with COOK4CALD for a few months and was impressed by the passion and hard work of the team of volunteers who run and put so much time into such an incredibly run community organisation. It was great to contribute, even in a small capacity, cooking in the kitchens knowing it is helping so many local Melbourne residents who need it! There is a great atmosphere in the kitchens and I couldn’t recommend enough for anyone looking to contribute to a great cause! ”

“COOK4CALD has given me opportunities to strengthen my skills in the kitchen and grow an appreciation for the CALD community. I have made lifelong friends and love contributing to a cause greater than myself!”
